Private Internet Access and an Anonymous Donor Challenge Donors in Largest Conservancy Match Ever!

November 28, 2017

Today, Software Freedom Conservancy announces the launch of its most ambitious match challenge ever, generously brought forward by Private Internet Access and an anonymous donor. All donations up to $75,000 will be matched dollar for dollar until January 15. Sign up as a Supporter today to have your donation count twice, but please act soon. January 15th will be here before we know it!

Conservancy is a non-profit public charity that supports communities in building and sustaining ethical technology. We act as an umbrella organization to over forty
member projects — including Git, Selenium, and Samba — each dedicated to making the free and open source software that makes the world run. Conservancy provides the fiscal, administrative, and all other support which allows these projects to focus on creating the best software they can. You provide the support which makes Conservancy work. This work cannot be done without your support.

2017 was a great year for Conservancy. Outreachy alone orchestrated mentorships for over 80 interns from groups underrepresented in free and open source software. Contributing to 22 free software communities in 2017 alone, many Outreachy alum have continued to be involved in free and open source software, taking leadership positions and becoming mentors themselves. Former interns, like Petra Sargent, used Outreachy as an opportunity to move into new careers, bringing the principles of free and open source software, mentorship, and collaboration into new spaces, or reinvigorating those already dedicated. Outreachy changes lives, and is only able to do so through its relationship with Conservancy.

Private Internet Access and our anonymous donor understand the relationship between the background work we do and the very visible impact of our member projects. We know you do too, and hope you’ll follow through and join as a Supporter or make a donation to Conservancy. Thanks to PIA and our other hero, your donations count double until January 15th.

Conservancy is a 501c(3) non-profit organization. If you support us now, not only do you help us meet the challenge grant but your contribution is also deductible on your 2017 taxes, to the extent permitted by law. Please act now and help us continue helping the free and open source software projects you rely on every day.
